Shoulders & Neck - Drop the Weight

Agnese sitting on the floor, side bending

A Feldenkrais workshop to free your neck and shoulder area and stop accumulating stress

Shoulders and neck are often the first areas of the body to "complain" when the weight of daily life becomes excessive. Hours spent in front of a computer, intense study sessions, driving through traffic, thoughts and worries transform our posture into a rigid armor.

We often seek relief in a massage or stretching exercises, but the problem is not in the muscle itself: it lies in how our nervous system organizes our movements. In other words, we are the ones creating the tensions that cause our discomfort. Learning to recognise them is the only way to understand how to let them go and, gradually, stop creating them altogether.

This seminar is dedicated to anyone who wants to "take off the backpack" of accumulated tension to enjoy life to the fullest, with a body that is reactive, light, and free from unnecessary weight.

Why Attend a Feldenkrais Workshop?

Unlike a massage or a passive treatment, which offer only temporary relief by acting from the outside, this seminar aims to make you the centre of your own well-being. Through movement and explorations, the goal is to refine your ability to feel and map your habitual motor patterns. The purpose is to learn to notice the exact moment when those unnecessary contractions in your shoulders or neck are triggered. By developing this awareness, you become capable of defusing tensions before they form, gaining the tools to take care of yourself and avoid hurting yourself without realizing it.

The Architecture of the Shoulder Girdle

To free the neck and shoulders, we must stop looking only where it hurts and expand the view of ourselves. During the seminar, we will explore:

  • The Shoulder Girdle: We will map this complex and fascinating structure - a dynamic system where the scapulae (shoulder blades), clavicles (collarbones), and sternum collaborate to offer freedom to both the arms and the head
  • The Connection with the Trunk: We will feel how the shoulder blades are not "glued" to the back but can glide fluidly over the rib cage. When this relationship breaks down, the neck is forced to do work it isn't designed for
  • Eyes and Neck - The directors of muscle tone: We will explore the deep link between the eye muscles, the tone of the suboccipital muscles and the overall muscle tone of the entire body. We will learn how eye movement influences the head's freedom in rotation and, consequently, the organization of the whole spine
  • From the Sternum to the Fingertips: We will experience how the mobility of the sternum is the key to open shoulders and breathing, which is essential for defusing chronic stress

What We Will Do: The Feldenkrais Method in Practice

We won't be doing traditional exercises; instead, we will guide the nervous system toward new options:

  • Awareness Through Movement (ATM) Lessons: movement sequences designed to map areas that often remain "dark" in our perception, making movement more functional
  • Self-Explorations: practical explorations to sense how we organize our shoulders in everyday life
  • Group Labs: brief moments of shared observation to enrich our self-image

Who It Is For

This seminar is designed for:

  • Anyone experiencing tension in the neck and shoulders, or simply curious to find a different, more comfortable way to organize themselves
  • Those who deal with chronic headaches
  • People who spend hours sitting and experience that "heavy head" feeling with their shoulders up to their ears
  • Anyone who accumulates tension while driving
  • Movers who want to improve shoulder mobility and the freedom of the neck and head

FAQ - Frequently Asked Questions

  • Can I participate even if I’ve never done Feldenkrais?

Absolutely, yes. The seminar is open to everyone, regardless of experience. We will work with gentle movements adapted to any physical condition.

  • If I choose the online option, will I still be guided?

Yes. During the live Zoom broadcast, we provide clear and precise verbal instructions. Feldenkrais does not rely on mimicking visual movements but on listening and personal exploration. Online participants can ask questions and interact just like those in the room.

  • What should I bring?

Comfortable clothing and socks. In the studio, we provide all the necessary props (stools, pads, and mats). If you are practicing from home, make sure you have a quiet space on the floor, a mat or a blanket to lie on, and a couple of folded towels to use as supports. Just bring your curiosity!

  • Why do this right now?

June is the perfect month to give your body a "tune-up." Arriving at your summer holidays with a free neck and relaxed shoulders means truly enjoying your time off, preventing chronic pain from showing up right when you finally want to unwind.
