Headstand & Handstand Workshop

Agnese e Stefano Headstand e Handstand

From Perception to Balance: tools for your autonomous practice

Finding balance upside down is more than just a physical challenge: it’s a matter of organization, trust, and awareness. It is a sophisticated practice of proprioception and structural alignment. Often, the difference between a strenuous handstand and an "easy" one lies in the nervous system's ability to accurately map the position of the spine and pelvis in space.

In this 3-hour workshop, we integrate the somatic work of the Feldenkrais Method with the dynamic strategies of the Movement Culture, in our creative and unique Movement Searcher style. Our goal is to build an inversion practice that is solid, safe, and free from unnecessary strain.

What you will learn:

1. The Foundation: Proprioception & Headstand

Before we go up, we must understand where we are. Through Awareness Through Movement lessons, we will refine your body perception to:

  • Alignment: Learn to stop fighting gravity and start using it to your advantage. We will find a way for the vertebrae to support weight adaptably, eliminating pressure on the neck.
  • Mapping the Space Behind: Develop proprioception of your back and the space behind you to neutralize the fear of falling. You will learn to "feel" where you are, even when you can't see.
  • Breath Management: Find a functional way to use the diaphragm while inverted. We will practice keeping the breath fluid when internal organs challenge the diaphragm, avoiding the common "effort-induced apnea."

2. The Progression: Handstand & Alignment

We will transfer this newfound awareness into the dynamic structure of the handstand:

  • Wrist, Hand, and Shoulder Prep: Specific exercises to strengthen and make your base of support more elastic and adaptable, crucial for injury prevention.
  • Finding the Line: Practical drills to find your ideal alignment and avoid the "banana back" or excessive arching, making the hold less fatiguing and more efficient.
  • Entry & Balance Techniques: Strategies to approach a free-standing hold in a progressive, safe, and enjoyable way, turning balance into a matter of micro-adjustments rather than brute force.

Who is this workshop for?

This lab is designed for anyone wanting to explore inversions through a logical, sustainable, and progressive method:

  • Beginners who want to start their journey with the right foundation
  • Active practitioners who feel "stuck" or limited by fear
  • Yoga, CrossFit, and Calisthenics athletes looking to improve mechanical efficiency and alignment while reducing load on vulnerable joints.
  • Anyone interested in improving their self-image and understanding how the nervous system manages precarious balance.

Important Note: This workshop is not a "magic pill" to go from zero to a free-standing handstand in three hours. That is a process that requires time and consistency. Instead, we provide you with the technical map and the essential tools to continue practicing autonomously in a functional, intelligent, and safe manner.

FAQ – Frequently Asked Questions

  • Do I need to have a handstand already?

No. The workshop provides the foundations. If you already have a practice, we will help you clean up your line and eliminate wasted effort.

  • I can already hold a handstand; will I learn anything new?

Absolutely. Many people "hold" a handstand through sheer effort. we will work on refining your alignment and breathing efficiency to make your hold longer, lighter, and more controlled.

  • Is this workshop right for me? I'm not sure about my level.

Whether you think you are "too advanced" or "too much of a beginner," don't worry: our approach is scalable. If you have specific concerns, send us a message and we can chat.

  • Why joining?

Because changing your perspective refreshes the nervous system. You will leave the workshop not just with new techniques, but with a clearer, more solid, and... extraordinarily inverted perception of yourself.

  • I’ve never been upside down, is that a problem?

Not at all. We start from the ground and headstands to build the confidence needed to move toward handstands. However, if the idea of being upside down doesn't appeal to you at all, check out our other (less inverted) events! 😉

  • I’m worried about my neck or wrists

This is exactly why we use Feldenkrais: to ensure weight is distributed correctly through the skeleton rather than vulnerable joints. We will teach you how to prep your joints so you aren't "hanging" on ligaments but using your bone structure.

  • I’m afraid of falling backward—is that normal?

It’s human! We dedicate a significant part of the work to mapping the space behind you, transforming fear into spatial orientation.
