Feldenkrais Workshop Pelvic Floor & Breathing

Pelvis, Breathing and Support: A Responsive System
Pelvic floor and diaphragm are not isolated parts of the body, nor are they the exclusive domain of women or solely linked to childbirth and intimate health issues. They are living, elastic and responsive surfaces, in constant relationship with the skeleton, breathing, and the way we stand, walk, move and organize ourselves in space.
In this 3-hour Feldenkrais® workshop, we will explore the pelvis as a weight-bearing structure, a container and support for organs and muscles, and the diaphragm as its “above neighbor”. Together, they form a dynamic system essential for managing internal organ pressure, safeguarding the back and core health in every daily action: from climbing stairs to lifting a weight, or even a simple sneeze. This dynamic relationship involves the whole person and influences how we move, breathe and act in daily life.
The aim is not to correct or strengthen individual parts, but to recreate a sensory and biomechanical connection throughout the entire system so that it can function in a more organic, efficient and adaptable way.
About the workshop
The workshop is built around Feldenkrais Awareness Through Movement lessons, offered in different positions and integrated with guided self-exploration and playful investigations involving sound and breath. This is not traditional gymnastics or mysticism, but a practical exploration to restore intelligence and functionality to the center of the body. The focus is not on performing exercises “the right way”, but on sensing, recognizing relationships and discovering new possibilities for movement that are more efficient, comfortable and sustainable.
During the workshop we will:
- explore the pelvis as a base of support, a center of transmission and a source of dynamic stability
- observe the breath not as something to control, but as an indicator of comfort, freedom and organization of the system
- bring the diaphragm and pelvic floor into relationship for easier and three-dimensional breathing, essential for relieving stress and improving vital functions like sleep and digestion
- learn to manage internal pressure, a key factor in protecting the lower back both in daily life and in disciplines such as parkour, weightlifting, or martial arts
If this connection is 'forgotten' or becomes rigid, the body compensates elsewhere, often creating chronic tension in the neck, shoulders, and lower back. When the breathing is free and the pelvic floor is not holding unnecessary tension, everyday actions become easier and energy is distributed more efficiently, without waste.
Contracting and letting go: a continuum of possibilities
Through attentive and exploratory Feldenkrais® practice, we will rediscover the ability to contract and release gradually, instead of switching abruptly between “everything” and “nothing”. If we only function at 0 or 100, we limit ourselves to two options — like machines. When we regain access to the full range between 0 and 100, possibilities multiply. This kind of movement organization allows us to use strength and elasticity intelligently, reducing unnecessary effort and rigidity.
Breath as an ally, not a technique
In this workshop, breathing is not imposed or shaped into an ideal form. Instead, it is used as a sensitive signal of how the whole system is organizing. When the pelvis, spine and rib cage collaborate more clearly, breathing changes spontaneously — becoming wider, smoother and more available, able to adapt to whatever we are doing.
The “trampoline”
A guiding image for the workshop is that of a trampoline. The pelvic floor and the diaphragm are not muscles to train for performance, but responsive surfaces that adapt and respond. They are capable of supporting without stiffening, and of yielding without collapsing. These qualities do not develop simply by contracting and releasing, but by exploring everything that exists between these two extremes. The result is an elastic, responsive and well organized centre, able to adapt to the demands of movement and everyday life.
Workshop goals
- Improve breathing quality, also to reduce stress and facilitate digestion
- Support the health and functional organization of the pelvic floor
- Sense and understand the dynamic relationship between the “lower trampoline” and the “upper trampoline”
- Reduce excessive tone (over-activation) or, conversely, lack of support
- Develop a sense of dynamic, non-rigid stability
- Rediscover a more comfortable and adaptable posture
- Reduce compensations and tension in the neck, shoulders, and back
Who is it for
The workshop is open to everyone, women and men alike, with no previous experience of the Feldenkrais® Method required. It is suitable both for those who wish to deepen their awareness of their own body, and for people who practice other movement disciplines or sports and want to improve organization, efficiency and internal sensitivity.

FAQ – Frequently Asked Questions
- Do I need previous experience with the Feldenkrais Method®?
No. The workshop is open to everyone — women and men — with or without prior experience. All proposals are guided step by step and can be adapted to different levels.
- Is this workshop only for people with pelvic floor issues?
No. The work is designed for anyone who wants to improve how they move and organize themselves in everyday life. It can be useful both preventively and for developing greater comfort, stability, and freedom of movement, as well as for supporting sports or artistic practice.
- What kind of work will we do?
The workshop is mainly based on Feldenkrais® Awareness Through Movement® lessons, practiced on the floor and in various positions, combined with guided self-exploration — to get to know yourself more deeply. There are no exercises to “perform.” Instead, you’ll explore movement, cultivate self-awareness, and pay attention to the relationships between different parts of yourself.
- Is breathing taught as a technique?
No. Breathing is not imposed or corrected. We use it as an indicator of how the whole system is organizing itself. When pelvis, spine, and rib cage collaborate more clearly, breathing changes spontaneously.
- Is it suitable for people who practice sports or other movement disciplines?
Yes. The workshop is especially valuable for those practicing yoga, dance, martial arts, running, climbing, or other physical activities who wish to improve: organization from the center, adaptability to different situations, proprioception and internal awareness.
- Do I need to bring anything?
We recommend comfortable clothing and socks. Mats and practice materials are available at the studio.
- How many participants will there be?
Spots are limited to ensure a comfortable and welcoming environment, quality of work, and individual attention. Booking is required.
