Feldenkrais for Movers - Sense More, Move More

Agnese doing a Feldenkrais Awareness Through Movement Lesson

The Laboratory of Movement Intelligence

“Make the impossible possible, the possible easy, the easy elegant.” - Moshe Feldenkrais

This is not your usual somatic work. Most Feldenkrais sessions are currently offered as relaxation- or rehabilitation-focused practices. “Feldenkrais for Movers” is different: it’s a self-discovery laboratory guided by Feldenkrais practitioners who are, first and foremost, full-time movers! We don’t just teach the method; we live and apply it within the context of a dedicated, daily practice.

This is the bridge between deep somatic inquiry and active movement. It is a unique laboratory where the sensitivity and fine listening of Feldenkrais meets the practical applications of your practice - be it handbalancing, martial arts, dance, calisthenics, yoga, etc.

Mapping the Unseen: Refine Your Practice through Sensation

We see it everywhere: practitioners working hard but moving with a "blind" nervous system. When you prioritize the external goal - the higher jump, the faster strike, the perfect handstand - without internal awareness, you unknowingly create glass ceilings of chronic tension and fatigue.

Moving without sensing leads to a shallowness of practice, recurring injuries, and a body that constantly fights itself. As Ido Portal likes to say, "When the shit hits the fan," it’s already too late. So, we are reversing the trend! We invite you to a weekly laboratory designed to dial up your proprioception, allowing you to unlock an adaptable, intelligent body that thrives beneath the noise of effort.

Cultivating Your Internal Map - Proprioception and Awareness

The biological ability to sense ourselves and our own position and movement in space is innate in the human being. However, in the rush of modern life, this internal sense often becomes dulled through disuse, leaving us less able to perceive the nuances of our own organization. The good news is that awareness and proprioception are not fixed traits; they are skills that can be trained like any other physical ability. By refining your self awareness, you gain the clarity needed to make the subtle, sophisticated changes and adaptations.

It is important to remember that awareness is not a "badge" to be earned or a static endpoint to achieve. It is a living process that requires daily refinement to meet the changing needs of your current body and life. In this laboratory, we don’t seek a final state of perfection; we practice the continuous art of listening to ourselves, ensuring our movement remains as healthy, fluid and adaptable as the lives we lead.

Why “Feldenkrais for Movers”?

In the movement world (as anywhere else), true progress should be indicated by the refinement of the "how" rather than just the increase of the “what.”

1. Beyond the "Do More" Trap

Training is often viewed as a battle against the body. We shift the focus from "doing" to "sensing." When you refine your internal map, you stop fighting yourself and start tapping into your true potential. You increase your capacity not through force, but through clarity, ensuring your practice builds you up instead of wearing you out.

2. The "Less is More" Rule: Weber-Fechner Law

To find clarity, we must lower the volume of the background noise. If your system is already working with high tension, you cannot feel the subtle refinements needed for improvement. By lowering the "noise" of constant effort, we create the quiet environment necessary for efficient, integrated movement where your whole self collaborates.

3. Acture: The Dynamic Neutral

Moshe Feldenkrais spoke of "Acture": the dynamic quality of a posture which is ready for action. A body locked in high tension is rigid and breaks; a body that is purely "relaxed" lacks the structure to produce power. We work to find a responsive state that allows you to start any movement in any direction at any time, without a preparatory adjustment or reset.

4. Learning How to Learn: The Ultimate Skill

Moshe Feldenkrais argued that learning how to learn is far more important than learning any specific skill. We are not machines uploading software: we are biological systems that thrive on complexity. By sharpening your sensitivity, you don't just learn a "move", you enhance your ability to interpret and organize the vast amount of information you receive both internally and from the external environment. This ensures that what you learn through the practice on the floor actually integrates into your practice and your life.

What we will explore

This program provides the fundamental tools to start sensing yourself more and to gain a deeper, more functional perception of how you move and function. Over the ten sessions, we systematically address:

  • all major planes of motion (flexion, extension, side bending, twist, rotation and integrations of them)
  • the concept of reversibility
  • distribution of effort
  • breathing
  • weightshifts and foundations
  • skeletal transmission

Regardless of the theme, every session is a deep dive into your global functioning, both physically and on more subtle layers. You will explore how your entire system coordinates; we don’t just train parts, we reorganize the whole person for more fluid, effortless and integrated action.

A 10-Week Series - Every Saturday from 2nd May to 4th July 2026

All lessons will be held in English and take place on Zoom, starting at 17:30 and concluding around 19:00 (CEST).

Somatic Exploration (approx. 60 minutes):

Guided Awareness Through Movement (ATM) lessons taught by experienced Feldenkrais practitioners. These explorations target the "blind spots" of your self-image, an entity that is always changing and evolving. Through these lessons, you will get deeper into sensing yourself in order to use yourself better.

Movement Analysis & Discussion (approx. 30 minutes):

After the lesson, we analyse its functional theme and translate it into the practicality of daily life and movement practice. We discuss how the somatic insights gained from the exploration can apply to your specific craft: handstands, yoga, floorwork, martial, acrobatics, expressive work, etc. There will also be time for an open dialogue and collective analysis: by sharing comments and doubts within a diverse community of practitioners, we tap into a wealth of shared knowledge, providing immense value to everyone's personal journey.

Your Facilitators: Stefano & Agnese

Stefano: coming from Ido Portal’s Movement Culture, thanks to the Feldenkrais practice, shifted from a "push-through" mentality to a "sense-through" clarity. Discovering that proprioception and awareness are sensory skills that can be trained as effectively as strength.

Agnese: raised within the Feldenkrais practice, takes the intelligence gained through somatic awareness and applies it to Movement Practice, showing how proprioception can be the foundation for movement complexity.

First Session is Free

We invite everyone to join our opening session on Saturday, May 3rd, at no cost. This will be the best way to meet us, experience firsthand our approach and see how it translates into your own movement practice. Then, you are welcome to join the full 10-week journey or drop in for individual sessions.

Costs & Materials

  • The Full 10-Week Journey: €150,00
  • Single Session Drop-in: €20,00

Access to single sessions or full series includes permanent access to recordings of both the Awareness Through Movement session and the Movement Analysis discussion. If your time zone does not allow you to participate live, materials will be available for purchase after each session.

What You Will Need

To get the most out of the laboratory, please prepare:

  • Floor: You will need a quiet space on the floor and something to lie on (a comfortable carpet or a folded blanket works perfectly; it doesn't need to be a yoga mat)
  • Supports: Have a few folded towels nearby to use as supports during some of the movement explorations
  • Clothing: We recommend long pants and long-sleeved shirts; this helps avoid skin friction and keep you warm, allowing your focus to remain on sensation rather than bidy temperature
  • Setup: Position your device so the camera points directly at your movement space. This allows us to observe your organization and offer precise verbal guidance.

Beyond Mimicry: Developing Your Own Movement Map

There will be no visual demonstration of the movements. This is a deliberate and essential part of the Feldenkrais learning process. By removing the visual model, we eliminate the instinct to "copy-paste" an external shape and instead shift the focus to your internal authority.

This strategy draws on the core principle that learning occurs through the differentiation, not through the imitation of form. When you listen to verbal cues rather than mimicking a teacher, you are forced to engage your own attention to solve the physical "puzzle" of the movement. This process bypasses the habit of straining toward an idealized goal and allows you to discover the specific pathways that work for your unique system. By navigating these explorations from within, you develop a genuine, functional map of your own body, transforming a "move" into a permanent upgrade of your physical intelligence.
