“A dialogue between nervous systems, opening a door to your own potential”

How an Functional Integration is conducted

A Functional Integration® (FI®) is a one-to-one Feldenkrais session, which takes place through the practitioner’s touch. It starts with an introductory interview, in which teacher and client take some time to explore the needs, problems or curiosities that led to the lesson. It might involve a demonstration of problematic movements or actions the person wants to improve.

Once the intention is clarified, the person can lie down, dressed, on the Feldenkrais table. During the lesson, though a listening touch and exploring movements, a dialogue between teacher and client’s nervous systems will be established. The practitioner will then be able to identify dysfunctional movement patterns and propose new alternatives to the person. These suggestions will not be presented as externally imposed patterns but will gradually be integrated into the person's way of functioning. The integration process is a journey of discovery and transformation, in which new possibilities of movement and integration are explored.

Why an Functional Integration?

The purpose of a Functional Integration is not to “fix” body parts or movement patterns, but rather to enable the person to develop a greater awareness of their own way of functioning, in order to avoid situations and movements that create discomfort or pain. The person gradually becomes the maker of their own wellbeing. By the end of the lesson, they will have achieved greater self-awareness and a new understanding of their potential.
